ILIGAN CITY —A former town mayor of Lanao del Sur whose name appeared in the matrix of supposed drug lords giving support to the Maute terrorists in the province on Wenesday appealed to President Rodrigo Duterte to review the fabricated document. Former Mayor Muhammadali Abinal of Marantao town, whose name is on top of the drug matrix recently made public by the President said, “The fabricators of the so-called matrix were local politicians who want to destroy their political foes ... the list is all lies." Also Abinal said that some politicians who are actually supporters of the terrorists in the province are out to destroy the friends of the President who have been supporting his campaign against illegal drugs and criminality. He claimed that he, together with the Marantao police chief, fought the Maute when the terrorist group tried to overrun the municipal hall on August 17, 2017. Also, he said that he cannot possibly be a donor of the Maute group as he is the poorest of local executives in the province. In a separate interview, Dr. Mosib D. Sarip, Secretary of the Sangguniang Bayan of Marantao, said: “Our former mayor [Abinal] was instrumental in the surrender of 334 drug dependents ... I believe that the fabrication of the supposed matrix was a politically motivated.” “We appeal to the president to review the fabricated drug matrix and to find out the real motives of those who spread such lies," Sarip added. In a text message, the council of Ulama in Marantao expressed support for Abinal. "We appeal to the President not to become an instrument of the manipulators and know his real friends and foes.” “We appeal for due process and the presumption of innocence of the accused," which might have been violated when the unverified matrix was publicly announced. Also, the ulamas affirmed their support for the chief executive's fight against illegal drugs, criminality and corruption.
