Salford stabbing: Arrest at school after boy, 17, stabbed

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested at a school after another teenager was stabbed several times at a bus stop.

He was held on suspicion of attempted murder after the boy, 17, was stabbed on Chorley Road, Swinton at about 08:50 BST, Greater Manchester Police said.

He is in hospital with multiple stab wounds and is in a stable condition.

Police said they were called at 09:00 after two boys tried to enter The Swinton High School on Sefton Road in Pendlebury.

Officers attended the scene and spoke with another boy, who they found to be in possession of a knife.

This subsequently led to the arrest of the 15-year-old boy - who was initially reported by police to be 16 - on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in police custody for questioning.

The school's head teacher, Mark Harrison, confirmed "a person has been arrested in connection with a stabbing in the community earlier today".

"The incident did not take place in the school nor is the victim a student at the school," he said.

He urged anybody with information to contact police.

Ch Insp Glenn Jones said: "Sadly a teenager has been stabbed today, and it is only fortunate that his injuries are not considered to be life-threatening."
