Apple investigating claims that iPhone 8 splits during charging

iPhone 8 users say their phones are splitting when charging

Apple unveiled its latest tech offerings at a much-anticipated event on 12 September. However, there seem to be problems with one of them. According to some users, the iPhone 8, which allows users to charge wirelessly and was made available to consumers on the 22nd of last month, splits open when it charges.

Next Web reported that a Taiwanese customer claimed her phone started to fall apart while it was charging. Things got worse as time went by, with the screen separating from the rest of the phone.

Another complaint came from a Japanese customer who complained that his iPhone had already split when he took it out of the box.

According to Huffington Post, the tech giant will be investigating claims, but refuses to offer any more information on the topic.

This is not the first time Apple has had negative feedback about a new release. When it was released in 2014, the iPhone 6 Plus was said to bend in owners’ pockets. Apple survived “bend-gate” and went on to sell 10 million iPhones [6 and 6 Plus] in the first weekend of release.

Faults in new releases can cause massive damage for brands and fixing the problem comes at a cost. Apple’s rival, Samsung, was forced to recall the Note 7 after consumers complained that the phones were exploding and catching fire when they were put on charge. After an in-depth investigation, Samsung conceded that there was a fault with the batteries.
