PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte inducted into office the new set of officers of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP)–Davao City Chapter on September 30 at the SMX Convention Center in Lanang, Davao City.
A member of Davao Chapter himself, Duterte administered the oath of office of president Rogelio G. Largo; vice president Santos E. Torrena Jr.; secretary Eleanor P. dela Pena; treasurer Charizma I. Cortez-Catague; auditor Rey Eduardo T. delos Reyes; PRO Aiza Mae J. Kanda; directors Cecilia J. Jover-Angeles, Paul Ryan Ongkingco, Kenneth I. Dabi, Marie Kristine A. Reginio, and Irvin Z. Sagarino; immediate past president Marie Dinah S. Tolentino-Fuentes; and special assistant to the president Danilo A. Balucos.
The new set of officers with terms ending 2019 will focus on the Legal Aid Warriors (Law) project.
“The Law is our centerpiece project [that] involves volunteer lawyers ready and willing to handle pro bono cases for the indigents,” Largo said.
Largo added that the chapter prioritizes criminal cases especially those that could no longer be accommodated by lawyers of the Public Attorney’s Office, petition for document corrections like birth certificates, family cases like adoption and annulment or similar cases referred by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
The IBP encouraged other lawyers to join the Law project, in addition to around 100 volunteers who have formally pledged their commitment during the event.
