Homeless Man Found Dead, Police Suspect Blunt Force Trauma

And there are two others murders to report tonight: one in Belize City, the other in Belmopan.

The first involves a homeless man - found dead by a security guard on the San Cas Plaza compound.

At 2:00 this morning, we was conducting a routine patrol on the compound when he came upon the lifeless body of a vagrant known to him as Michael.

Police have since confirmed that it is Michael Garbutt, and he had an injury to his jaw and one to the back of his head. Police sources tell us that it shows signs of a homicide; that an examination suggests that he was hit with a pipe or some heavy object which smashed his jaw, and crushed the back of his head.

Security told us today that Garbutt was a homeless man who would occasionally use the lot as a place to pass the night. The compound has cameras and the footage is being used to assist in the search for a possible suspect. Garbutt is not known to have immediate family in Belize.
