Libya says bodies of Egyptians beheaded by Islamic State group recovered

"Islamic State"
militants reportedly carried out the execution-style killings in early
2015.

Libyan authorities have recovered the remains of 21 Coptic Christians
who were beheaded by so-called "Islamic State" (IS) militants more than
two years ago, the anti-IS organization al-Bonyan al-Marsous announced
Saturday.

"The heads are separated from the bodies clad in orange jumpsuits, hands
bound behind the back with plastic wire", said the ministry's unit for
fighting organised crime in the city of Misurata.

In February 2015, a graphic video was posted online showing IS militants
on a Libyan beach beheading 20 Egyptian Christians and vowing to fight
those they described as "crusaders".

The remains were transferred to the forensics lab in Misrata city for
DNA testing, in order to deliver the remains over to families of the
victims.

In 2016, the government forces, backed by USA air forces, launched a
seven-month war on IS militants in Sirte, some 450 km east of the
capital Tripoli, and announced the liberation of the city in December.

ISIL posted a video online in February 2015 of the beheadings, sparking
worldwide condemnation and Egyptian air strikes against jihadist targets
 in Libya.
